Arsonists Get All the Girls

It’s difficult to find new “metal” (more like mathcore or grindcore) bands who have variety in their music. Most bands consist of monotone songs that more closely resemble a competition between instruments and the vocalists to see who can out sound the rest than a song. However in this day and age, surprisingly some new bands exist that have not given in to this trend. One of these bands, which I’m proud to say, is no other than Arsonists Get All the Girls.
Besides having a cool name, Arsonists Get All the Girls is the best of both worlds: the heavy metal derivative sound and a harmonious tune. “Shoeshine For Neptune” and “Scobra VS Cupcake” are just some of their tuneful songs that really give you pump and at the same time make your ears happy.
Arsonists Get All the Girls was formed in 2005 in Santa Cruz, California. Originally, the members of AGATG had no intention of being a serious band; funny how trivial things increase in value. As of now, the band has released two albums: Hits From the Bow and The Game of Life. They are also expected to release a new album in July 2009 (Portals).
The band has also gone through several members but the most devastating leave of all has to be that of Patrick Mason (former bassist). Patrick passed away on November 2007 due to alcohol poisoning. Sad.

Earlimart

Earlimart: the epitome of indie rock. No better days to listen to Earlimart than those calm or perhaps even melancholic days. The band’s soft soothing sound allures one’s repressed inner feelings while creating a desire for exploration and creativeness. Earlimart certainly isn’t new to the music scene and while they’re line-up has changed throughout the years, two members have always remained: Ariana Murray and Aaron Espinoza. This duo is the quintessence of Earlimart’s success and enticing sound.
One thing’s sure, great music consists not only of a good sound but good lyrics as well (with the exception of classical music). Further reason as to why Earlimart’s music can be considered extraordinary rather than vexatious. Songs I recommend are “Hymn and Her,” “Happy Alone,” and “Bloody Nose.”

Electric Umbilical Cord

This is nonessential to this post but coming home today I heard my brother’s speakers blasting through the hallway. Our tastes in music are completely different but I believe it’s wrong to say someone has bad taste in music just because their taste is antithetical to mine. Of course I can’t help it sometimes but to say that certain songs and artist are crap. I’m not sure what he was listening to but it sounded like a drunk man singing while playing the same note over and over again. Definitely not something worth listening to.
Electric Umbilical Cord is more like it. EUC’s catchy tunes and euphonious sound would leave many listeners hooked. The duo consists of Wesley Thatcher and Corey Crawford who are originally from San Diego but currently reside in Brooklyn. Electric Umbilical Cord is definitely more soothing and pleasant to the ears than a drunk man singing. Songs like “Dark Roads” and “Shattered Glass” are perfect for those sappy days. Their sound is similar to that of Joy Division and New Order as well and you can never go wrong with those two.
Oh, and one other cool thing about this band besides their music, is their name. The duo told Filter Magazine that their name is based on the idea that they use electricity to produce their sound and also on the broader sense, electronics have become essential to people’s daily life that we basically feed from it. Hence a umbilical cord.
